OPITO Appoints Ex-Transocean Manager
Global energy industry skills body OPITO has appointed ex-Transocean manager Stuart Clow as a director.

Global energy industry skills body OPITO revealed Tuesday that it has appointed ex-Transocean manager Stuart Clow as a director.

Under his new role, Clow will focus on “supporting industry safety through high-quality training and competency standards,” according to OPITO.

Clow will be based in Aberdeen, leading the approvals team, which oversees the international training provider network, and managing workforce development programs including the Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Program (OGTAP).

OPITO’s new appointment has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in a variety of roles both in the UK and internationally. He spent 28 years with Transocean, latterly as a workforce planning manager.

“Stuart has impressive and varied industry expertise from being involved in drilling operations offshore to managing complex global resourcing and workforce requirements for a multi-national company,” John McDonald, CEO of OPITO, said in an organization statement.

“We are recognized for the quality of our standards that are designed to keep the workforce safe and competent and Stuart’s appointment to OPITO’s leadership team will further strengthen our support to global stakeholders in maintaining this benchmark,” he added.

Commenting on his appointment, Clow said OPITO’s mission to improve safety and competency is close to his heart.

“Having worked offshore for 18 years in different global locations and then being fortunate to lead global workforce development programs, I’ve witnessed first-hand the importance of consistent standards. I’m looking forward to supporting the organization with its ambition to maintain quality at every step of the process,” he added.

In August last year, OPITO appointed Mark Cullens as its director of strategic development. Cullens joined from Petrofac Training Services, where he was the Eastern Hemisphere director of business development.

Industry-owned OPITO works with governments, national oil companies, operators and contractors. The organization offers a range of services and products to meet international skills needs, according to its website. OPITO has offices in Aberdeen, Houston, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.
