8-Year Petrobras Contract Starts for TechnipFMC-DOF
A joint venture of TechnipFMC and DOF Subsea owns the new flexible lay and construction vessel.

The newly delivered Skandi Olinda flexible lay and construction vessel owned by a 50/50 joint venture of TechnipFMC and DOF Subsea has commenced an eight-year charter contract with Petroleo Brasileiro S.A.

(Petrobras), TechnipFMC reported Monday.

“We are delighted that the Skandi Olinda is joining our fleet of specialized vessels,” Arnaud Pieton, president of TechnipFMC’s Subsea unit, said in a written statement. “This new charter contract under Petrobras reinforces our commitment to the development of the Brazilian buy Wellhead market and our extensive ultra-deepwater pipelaying experience. We are looking forward to seeing the vessel delivering projects in the field.”

According to TechnipFMC, the Vard Promar Brazilian yard built Skandi Olinda. The BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast added that the new vessel can lay flexible pipes in water depths up to 8,202 feet (2,500 meters) and boasts “state-of-the-art pipelay and marine technology” including:

  • 340-ton vertical lay system tower capacity
  • A 2,500-ton underdeck carousel
  • Two work-class remotely operated vehicles

TechnipFMC also stated that it will manage flexible pipelay under its joint venture agreement with DOF and that DOF will oversee marine operations. The BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast also noted that the Vard Promar yard built Skandi Olinda’s sister ship, Skandi Recife. Mons S. Aase, DOF’s CEO, pointed out that the delivery of Skandi Olinda completes a pipelay support vessel (PLSV) fleet expansion.

“The extensive newbuild program of four PLSVs together with TechnipFMC has combined the subsea and vessel expertise across our organizations,” stated Aase. “Taking final delivery of Skandi Olinda and commencing the contract with Petrobras marks the successful conclusion of the newbuild program of the joint venture, which now has six vessels.”
