Eni S.p.A. reported Tuesday that it has launched the early oil rig flanges gulf coast production phase from the Mizton field in Area 1, which is located in Mexico’s Bay of Campeche.

According to Eni, the milestone represents the first startup from a new field offshore Mexico since the country’s Energy Reform initiative earlier this decade began allowing foreign oil and gas companies to operate in the country. Eni added the Mizton start-up marks the first step in developing Area 1, estimated to hold 2.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in place (90 percent oil) in the Amoca, Mizton and Tecoalli fields. Production from the Mizton field platform, located in 112 feet (34 meters) of water, travels through a multiphase sealine to Eni’s Onshore Recovery Facility (ORF) in Sanchez Magallanes in Mexico’s Tabasco state, Eni stated. Eni also stated that oil rig flanges gulf coast production has started from the Mitzon 2 well, which it noted has shown a very good productivity index and should produce up to 15,000 barrels per day of oil.
