After several weeks of declines, the U.S. tacked on an additional six oil rigs, according to weekly data from Baker Hughes, a GE Company.

Gas rigs, however, declined by four.

This week’s fluctuations bring the nation’s total number of active rigs to 935, down 122 from the count of 1,057 a year ago.

Texas and West Virginia tied this week for the most rigs lost, at four apiece. Ohio lost three rigs and Oklahoma’s count dropped by one.

Several states added rigs this week. Those counts are:

• Pennsylvania (4)
• Louisiana (3)
• Alaska (2)
• New Mexico (2)
• North Dakota (1)
• Wyoming (1)

Among the major basins, the Permian led all losses with three rigs, while the Utica dropped two.

Despite the Permian’s losses, the shale basin still has 441 active rigs – accounting for almost half of the U.S.’ total active rigs.

The Cana Woodford, DJ-Niobrara, Eagle Ford and Williston all saw their rig counts decline by one apiece.
